Recent songs I've been into

Saturday May 16, 2026

Hey people,

I’ve been collecting songs these past few weeks, and I wanted to share some of them. A longer discussion about music is in the works; however, I couldn’t stop myself from sharing. (I recommend Elena Gigante’s article while you wait.)

Alicks - the forest un wept

Taken from his latest album, this song really feels like water dripping down leaves into a waking forest. My imagery is heavily being influenced by the recent release of the music video (his first ever). As usual, the timbre is somber, full of melancholia, which makes me somehow fear for the critters roaming around the ground. My mind then links it all back to Hollow Knight. Lastly, the sounds used in the song find a weird balance between sounding acoustic and virtual, which to me adds to the fantastical nature of the forest I’m imagining. Huge shout out to Greyson Joralemon for his directing of the video.

Vegyn - There’s Something Here for Us Both

After not having released something in a while, Vegyn comes back with a certified banger. This short little track to me sounds like a house party. Starting with walking up to the door, hearing the people talk on the other side; to going in and hearing the thumping of the bass getting everyone to dance; to the end of the night either sleepily talking on the balcony or walking home alone. In such a short time, Vegyn manages to take us on an entire journey. It’s something I deeply admire in his music. His tracks have a sound that are bops on the surface and leave you thinking afterwards.

Tim Maia - Over Again

This track was discovered thanks to Big Squeeze Soul’s DJ set on Everybody Loves To Boogie. From the first strum of the guitar, you just know it’s a certified classic. Tim Maia’s voice sounds like a big hug on a slow morning, and the lyrics help you pick yourself up after a tumble. Big Squeeze Soul has been a big source of golden oldies recently, and I can’t thank them enough for keeping my feet tapping and hand swinging. Go check out their many playlists and guest DJ sets; they’re bound to turn your frown upside down.

Ahmed Malek - La Silence des Cendres

I’ll end this showcase on maybe the most cinematic song I’ve heard in a while. If you haven’t heard of Habibi Funk, I’ll leave you to go down that rabbit hole and report back to me with your favorites. Among the many amazing albums they have re-released, this is the one I started with. La Silence des Cendres comes straight out of a noir movie. The drums, the melancholic theme, the amazing arrangement of instruments—ahhhhh. It’s the kind of final credits track that will make me stay seated in my movie theater seat and stare at the screen until I’m kicked out.

That’s all for me; hope you enjoyed.

Much love and good luck!

Sip <3

P.S Here’s a long ambient to help you sleep.
